Fear of Flight

Turn off your television, and go for a walk
Farther than you ever have
The place you may wind up could be where I go.
Standing on the edge of that cliff
Hesitant to jump because I'm afraid
That I might actually be able to fly.
Simultaneously gripped by opposing forces
The fears of failure and success
Working together which force no movement
In either direction.
Do you sit and wait and hope for a sign?
A divine intervention that never comes?
Nagging questions that swoop and swirl
Begging to be answered, but by whom?
Watching from high above as chance after chance
Speeds by below?
Dwelling on the past, searching in vain
For a way to recapture the feelings again
Of the way it was when all was good?
Time to stop it all, and step off
